The Least of These

Then the righteous will answer him, "Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?
The King will reply, "I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me."
Matthew 25:37-40

Pray for Seeds Academy & Feeding Station - Kitalie

Seeds Academy and Feeding Station is located in Kipsongo, a slum near Kitalie.  Kipsongo mean place of the dogs.  Many children live in huts made of mud, sticks and plastic bags.  Many have lost one or both parents to the AIDS epedemic and are now being raised by grandparents or other family members.

But inside the gates of Seeds Academy the air is thick with HOPE. (Hope and dust :) but let's focus on the hope.)  Each day 250 children are being feed - body, mind and soul.  Seeds Academy is the model that with God's help, the other GFE feeding stations are striving toward.

There is a well that feeds a large sink area with clean water for cooking, drinking and the washing of lots and lots of little hands.

The children's uniforms are made by staff using a pedal operated sewing machine and serger.

In the morning the children receive a vitamin enriched porridge.  At lunch they receive a meal of either corn and beans or rice and beans.
Meals are prepared in these big pots which are heated from a fire beneath.
Full tummies make for good students.  Students in pre-school through Class 3 (third grade) are taught by eight very gifted teachers.  Students in Kenya must learn to read and write in Kiswahili and English.  Math, Science and Social Studies are also taught.
Teachers have as many as 41 students in a class.  Because student books are in short supply teachers create a wide variety of "posters" so information can be studied and reviewed as a class.  You can see a sample of these "posters", in the picture at the right.  The teachers draw and paint on old flour sacks that have been cut open.

But children aren't just taught reading, writing and arithmatic.  They are taught the word of God.    They are taught that God loves them and sent His son Jesus.  Because of the care and love shown to their chiildren, many in the community have come to faith in Christ.  A congregation now meets in the assembly hall on Sundays.

Please pray that God will continue to provide for the work that is being done here.  Also pray that God will provide the following supplies.
  • Erasers (the big rectangle ones)
  • Sketchbooks or notebooks for students
  • clocks for all the classrooms (for teaching children to tell time)
  • 50 fine tip dry erase markers
  • Felt markers
  • ink refils for the markers
  • Empty sacks (markers and sacks are for making the "posters")
  • paint
  • masking tape
  • manilla paper (11x14)
  • 8 spiral notebooks (for teachers)
  • 8 three-ring binders (for teachers)
  • Radio/CD/cassette player for listening to programs in English and donated materials.
The needs I have listed above are simply to help you pray more specifically for Seeds Academy.   While buying notebooks and pencils may seem like more fun than donating money, it is not quite as effective at meeting the needs of the children in Kenya.   If God is prompting you to contribute financially toward the support of Seeds Academy please follow the link to Light Ministries’ On -Line Giving page.  Light Ministries raises funds for and partners with Global Field Evangelism.    A $5.00 donation in the hands of Light Ministries will go much further toward meeting the needs at this feeding station than $5.00 worth of notebooks possibly could.
